True Devotion (Uncommon Heroes, Book 1)

see relatedI read this back in 2002 and then again in July 2012 when Amazon offered this for free. I read this a few months before I joined the Navy on January 13, 2003. I served 4 years, half the time as an undesignated Boatswain's Mate and the last half as a Gunners Mate E4. As far as religion and the military went, our ship's church was not that big. We had a small office work space as the "church" and one Chaplain for over 1,300 sailors. Also my ship was stationed in San Diego, Ca. It was nice being stationed just 2 hour drive (or Amtrak ride) from my family who lives in L.A. County.
True Devotion was an ok read. It's the only one of Dee's that I read. I was more a big Suzanne Brookeman fan at the time. I was intrigued by the storyline and really liked Joe "Bear." But I felt Kelly is hard to like. She got on my nerves to much for me to like her.
I ended up skipping past some pages that had a faith agenda. There are some Christian Lits that I don't mind. Joe and Kelly's faith starts of believable and a little nice to read in small dosages. But then it became redundant and too long of a descriptive. I felt that it took away from the story and that's why I now skip past the religious parts.
Other than that, the storyline has a typical suspense mystery and a PG romance. I really felt that Debbie could have expanded more on Kelly and Joe's relationship because it feels rushed.
